PHILADELPHIA CITIZENS FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH calls itself the region's leading child advocacy organization, saying its conducts research, mobilizing and "informed advocacy." Among PCCY's major efforts is helping families with children connect to health care and child care services and working to bring about positive change in the public education and juvenile justice systems.

 

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA, headquartered in Philadelphia, provides a professionally supported service for at-risk youth through a one-to-one relationships with a committed and caring adult volunteer. The mentor serves as a friend and positive role model to assist these youth in achieving their highest potential.

 

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF PHILADELPHIA INC. offer a range of programs to "inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens."

 

CHILDREN'S SERVICES, INC. provides foster care with intensive counseling for dependent and delinquent children up to age 21. Programs of service include foster family care, a life and job skills learning program, supervised independent living, three Family Centers, services to children in their own homes, adoption, and a Behavior Health Clinic.

 

DIVERSIFIED COMMUNITY SERVICES, INC., provides services that develop skills and create opportunities to enable individuals and families to improve their lives and neighborhoods. Services include day care, education, emergency food, fuel assistance, housing counseling, homeless prevention, employment, camping, day treatment, family supports, and youth development.

 

GIRL SCOUTS OF SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA is an "informal, values-based education program" offering girls ages 5-17 with a range of recreational and educational activities. In Girl Scouting's all girl setting, girls learn valuable leadership and decision-making skills with guidance from adult role models.

 

EASTERN UNIVERSITY YOUTH MINISTRY DEPARTMENT is one of the top evangelical youth-ministry programs in the country, training people in what is seen as a booming field. Its faculty includes an authority on youth ministry techniques, who could discuss trends and challenges in reaching contemporary youth.

 

MATERNITY CARE COALITION aims to improve maternal and child health and well-being through joint efforts by individuals, families, providers and communities. Its signature program is the MOMobile outreach and family-support program for pregnant women.

 

NORTH LIGHT COMMUNITY CENTER is a multi-service, community based center that provides a variety of programs designed to support positive youth development, strengthen families and build community.

 

THE PHILADELPHIA SOCIETY FOR SERVICES TO CHILDREN seeks to prevent child abuse and sustain and strengthen family life. Its focus is on young children and their parents, grandparents and other relative caregivers, and families of physically and developmentally disabled children. Program services include home-based counseling and assessment, developmental screenings of preschool children, parenting skills and home management education, parent groups, and "community based resource linkage."

 

THE JUVENILE LAW CENTER is a nonprofit, public interest law firm which advances the rights of children involved with public agencies by working for the reform and coordination of the child welfare, juvenile justice, education, and mental and physical health care systems.

 

ASAP (AfterSchool Activities Partnerships of Philadelphia) works to increase supervised after-school activities for kids. It recruits volunteers to assist existing programs and organizes new after-school activities "as driven by their interests and the needs of the community."  It also seeks to organize and make available information on after-school recreation programs.

 

CHILDREN'S CHOICE is an evangelical Christian, non-profit agency providing services to children and families "in need of the re-integrative process of family living." It focuses on foster care and adoption, basing its work on what it calls biblical values.
