 Public Safety 

THE PHILADELPHIA EMERGENCY-PREPAREDNESS OFFICE, officially called the Emergency Preparedness and Bioterrorism Program, is part of the city Department of Public Health. It provides information about biological, chemical and radiological agents, shelter and evacuation procedures, family safety planning, and other general information. It was recently criticized for not having an adequate emergency plan in place.

 

PHILADELPHIA REGIONAL Emergency Medical Services is one of 16 statewide regional EMS offices which serves as a liaison between the Pennsylvania Department of Health Emergency Medical Services Office and the City of Philadelphia. As such, Regional EMS is responsible for planning, interpreting, implementing and requiring compliance with the laws and regulations of EMS on the federal, state, and local levels.

 

THE PHILADELPHIA POLICE COUNTER-TERRORISM UNIT was established in 2002 in response to the 9/11 attacks. It has an investigative arm that looks into suspected domestic and international terrorism in Philadelphia, and an educational component to train the department's first responders as well as civic groups. It also has an Arab-English tip hotline.

 

FBI, PHILADELPHIA DIVISION, investigates air piracy, terrorism, foreign counterintelligence, and other violations of federal statutes.

 

TOWN WATCH INTEGRATED SERVICES is a volunteer-driven force that operate in every police district of the city to assure neighborhood safety. The office provides C.E.R.T (Citizens Emergency Response Training) , recruits volunteers, and identifies new areas for safe corridors for students and others.

 

CRIME VICTIMS OF CHESTER COUNTY, INC., is a program for crime victims (sexual assault and other crimes) and their families providing 24-hour crisis response, medical, police, and legal accompaniment, individual and group counseling and a range of prevention and education programs and professional training.

 

DELAWARE COUNTY WOMEN AGAINST RAPE provides comprehensive direct services to rape and other sexual assaults and their families in Delaware County.

 

NEUMANN COLLEGE PROGRAM ON INTELLIGENCE STUDIES is a new certificate program modeled after courses taught at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and used by the FBI, DEA and Homeland Security. It is designed for public safety personnel as well as law enforcement officers, intelligence analysts and private security. One of its courses, Intelligence Analysis, will enable students to analyze and disseminate intelligence information to policy makers and decision makers in a law enforcement or public safety organization.
