FBI, PHILADELPHIA DIVISION, investigates organized crime, white-collar crime, public corruption, financial crime, fraud against the government, bribery, copyright matters, civil rights violations, bank robbery, extortion, kidnapping, air piracy, terrorism, foreign counterintelligence, interstate criminal activity, fugitive and drug-trafficking matters, and other violations of federal statutes.
THE PHILADELPHIA DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE handles a variety of cases including white-collar crime, consumer fraud, welfare fraud, unemployment compensation fraud, official corruption and insurance fraud. Its Economic and Cyber Crime Unit is compromised of prosecutors and detectives who investigate and prosecute complex cases such as identity theft, bank fraud, counterfeit check schemes, embezzlement, forgeries, environmental crimes, and government fraud.
THE JERRY LEE CENTER OF CRIMINOLOGY at the University of Pennsylvania says its mission is "to produce major discoveries about the causes and prevention of crime, showing how to make a safer and more democratic world." It manages the Forum on Crime & Justice and the Academy of Experimental Criminology. It works with local, state and federal agencies on a system that pools data and makes far more efficient predictions about who is at highest risk of committing a crime, and how that risk might be reduced-through social services, family support, or law enforcement surveillance. It also runs Criminal Justice Journalists, which aims to help working journalists by suggesting sources and story ideas based on the expertise of public officials, academic researchers, professional organizations, and other experts.
THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINOLOGY has faculty who are former prosecutors. One focuses on evidence-based crime and justice policy, implementation of change in criminal justice agencies, federal policy-making and state and local criminal justice programs.
THE CRIME VICTIMS CENTER OF CHESTER COUNTY INC. is a program for crime victims (sexual assault and other crimes) and their families. It provides 24-hour crisis response, medical, police, and legal accompaniment, individual and group counseling and a range of prevention and education programs and professional training.
THE PENNSYLVANIA PRISON SOCIETY provides information, advocacy and intervention services to Pennsylvania prisoners, ex-offenders and the families. Programs include: Prison visitation, crisis intervention, pre-and post-release planning and support, public education on criminal justice issues, parenting education, and assistance with education expenses while incarcerated.
TOWN WATCH INTEGRATED SERVICES is a volunteer-driven force that operate in every police district of the city to assure neighborhood safety. The office provides C.E.R.T (Citizens Emergency Response Training) , recruits volunteers, and identifies new areas for safe corridors for students and others.
