ARGENTINA-February 23-26, 2010- Seventeen visitors from Argentina's Fundacion Universitaria del Rio de la Plata (FURP) will visit the following three cities, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Harrisburg for the Political, Social and Economic Issues in the U.S. program. This two week Voluntary Visitor program is designed to increase their understanding of key contemporary issues as well as the status of U.S.-Argentine relations. These visitors came to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State's International Leadership Visitor Program.

FULBRIGHT-March 2010-Check back for details- Each year, our office arranges a hospitality dinner for first-year foreign Fulbright students who participate in enrichment seminars in Philadelphia. The 2010 Philadelphia Fulbright Enrichment Seminar will take place in early March.  Approximately 150 foreign Fulbright students from various universities throughout the United States will participate.   These students will represent over seventy different countries and are pursuing graduate degrees in diverse fields of study.  These students are here through the Fulbright Program.

RUSSIA-March 6-9, 2010-Ten visitors will participate in the Materials Development for English Teachers program. From this program, participants will gain an understanding of diversity of the U.S. society and culture, contemporary American visual arts, techniques on integrating arts resources into classroom instruction and practical aspects of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).  These visitors came to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State's International Leadership Visitor Program.

PAKISTAN-March 11-13, 2010-Six visitors will participate in the Politics and Civic Engagement in America program in Philadelphia. This program will hold series of workshops and roundtable discussions to examine the role of the media, grassroots organizations, and labor unions in holding leadership accountable and eliminating corporate and government waste, mismanagement and inefficiency as well as disaster preparedness and reconstruction. These visitors came to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State's International Leadership Visitor Program.

CENTRAL and SOUTHEAST ASIA-March 17-20, 2010-Three visitors will participate in the Science Education in Primary and Secondary Schools program.  This program will provide an overview of science education issues at the federal, state, local and grassroots level, while examining primary and secondary curriculum development, evaluating various afterschool science programs and science laboratory work.  These visitors came to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State's International Leadership Visitor Program.

TURKMENISTAN-March 25-30, 2010-Three visitors are participating in the Public Private Partnerships program in Philadelphia.  This program will discuss the various quasi-public organizations that facilitate small business development such as the Chamber of Commerce and WTC.  Other important features of this program will explore U.S. practices in administering government managed, long-term service contracts for publicly-owned facilities.  These visitors came to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State's International Leadership Visitor Program.

AFRICA RP-March 25-30, 2010-Six visitors are attending the Entrepreneurship and E-Commerce program.  This program will cover topics on economic decentralization, regional cooperation, and public-private partnerships, as well as illustrate the social, economic, and political factors that influences and encourage the development of small businesses and entrepreneurs in the United States. At the same time, they will investigate the field of e-commerce for entrepreneurs exploring new business opportunities created by the internet and the expansion of the global marketplace and exchange ideas with small and large organizations, including business incubators. These visitors came to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State's International Leadership Visitor Program.

AFRICA SRP-March 25-28, 2010-Five visitors are participating in the Transparency and Good Governance program.  This program will enable participants to discuss the meaning and implications of transparency, ethical standards, and accountability and how these principles are defined, monitored and enforced.  Topics for discussion will include common ethical values, laws requiring public disclosure of government actions, and the role of the media and citizens groups in holding government accountable.  These visitors came to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State's International Leadership Visitor Program.

RUSSIA-March 25th-April 15, 2010 (FIRST PROGRAM) and June 10- July 1, 2010.  There will be two programs in 2010 for Russian religious leaders to study interfaith issues in the United States. The first program takes place March 25th to April 15th and will be located in both Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.  The first program will include ten participants from the Republic of Tatarstsan. The second program takes place June 10th to July 1st and will be located in both Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. The second program will include ten participants from Moscow St. Petersburg, North Caucasus, the Republic of Buryatia, the Republic Tatarstsan and the Republic of Kalmykia.  For both programs, IVC will provide a total immersion into interfaith issues and American culture by arranging for the participants to meet with professionals in their field, live in Philadelphia area homes, and be exposed to a diversity of American experiences.  The United States Agency for International Development's (USAID) Community Connections Program is responsible for these two programs. IRAQ SCP-March 31-April 4, 2010-Five visitors will have the opportunity to participate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program.  The program offers educators a practical guide to the U.S. educational system at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels with a specific focus on English Language Programs (curriculum, language labs, classroom instruction methods, and technological teaching aids), international exchange opportunities, and university training methods for ESL teachers. These visitors came to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State's International Leadership Visitor Program.

AFGHANISTAN-March 31-April 2, 2010-Twelve visitors will attend the Community Problem Solving and Conflict Resolution program.  This will focus on various meeting, site visits and networking opportunities, visitors will examine the methods that community organizations-including civic, faith-based, and governmental groups-employ to promote conflict resolution in underserved communities. These visitors came to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State's International Leadership Visitor Program.

ISRAEL-April 13-16, 2010-Five visitors from Jerusalem will participate in the Cultural Institutions program. In this program, they will analyze the relationship between cultural organizations in both local and national authorities, evaluate marketing and publicity disseminating strategies to youth and nontraditional audiences using innovative mass communication technologies, examine U.S. multifaceted cultural events and festivals and analyze the relationship and cooperation amongst various social sectors. In addition, they will also observe ongoing programs for fostering vital connections with local artists to keep them connected in the city. Please check back later for specific location details.  These visitors came to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State's International Leadership Visitor Program.

AFRICA RP-April 22-27, 2010-Eight visitors will attend the Women and Law program in Philadelphia.  The program will provide a historical overview of the U.S. judicial system, its underlying principles and traditions, with a particular focus on the expansion of women's legal rights. Participants will gain insights into the breadth and depth of U.S. women's participation in, and access to legal and judicial systems with a specific emphasis on programs designed to promote human and civil rights affecting the advancement of women's status in political, economic and social structures.  The program will focus on laws such as those governing gender discrimination in the job market, as well as new initiatives in combating trafficking in person, domestic violence and abuse.  Visitors will explore the role of various organizations working through the legal system to improve women's status in areas such as health, education and economic independence. These visitors came to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State's International Leadership Visitor Program.

CHINA-May 2010-A delegation from Tianjin, Philadelphia's Sister City, will visit Philadelphia for a professional development program.  The delegation is interested in meeting their counterparts to discuss potential business opportunities. IVC is working with the Pennsylvania Chinese American Chamber of Commerce (PCACC) to assist in arranging meetings with pharmaceutical, biotech and life sciences companies. They are here through the Sister Cities Program.
