GENESIS II is a nonprofit that provides housing, education, child care, counseling and substance abuse treatment services for single women and their children. It has two facilities: Caton Village on Spring Garden for single women with their children; and Second Beginnings, on North Broad Street, for women living without their children in the facility.
BETTER DAYS, at Marian Anderson Recreation Center in South Philadelphia, aims to "reduce or eliminate the use of substance and alcohol abuse as a contributing factor to physical, psychological, and social dysfunction." It focuses on young females in particular, seeing them as "the child bearers of the future."
THE AL-ASSIST BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE CENTER in South Philadelphia is one of two that Greater Philadelphia Health Action operates in its mission is to administer quality primary healthcare regardless of clients' ability to pay. The center provides outpatient alcohol/substance abuse and mental health treatment. Services offered include initial assessments, individual and group therapy, family counseling, anger management and grief counseling.
THE SALVATION ARMY operates Adult Rehabilitation Centers that treat addiction, dysfunction, poverty, incarceration, and homelessness. It would provide a glimpse into a born-again Christian approach to addressing people's social, emotional and spiritual needs through housing, work, group and individual therapy.
