THE TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HISTORY DEPARTMENT has a number of professors specializing in American studies and U.S. urban history. For instance, one says he studies "the history of the school, the family, and the material culture of education," while another focuses on "social change movements, racial justice politics, and the political capacity of civil society."

THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA HISTORY DEPARTMENT also has many American studies and American culture scholars. One is at work on a cultural history of privacy, while another specializes in "public memory, environment, race and the West," and a third could talk about "vernacular architecture" and American consumer culture.

INDEPENDENCE NATIONAL  HISTORICAL PARK has curators who can discuss the teaching of civics and history through historical artifacts.
