First Thursday isn't a typical cocktail reception - you have an important mission!  First Thursdays are so popular and friendly because everyone has a role to play. When you pick up your name badge, be sure to get the list with our guests' names, their interests & why they're here. It also tells you what color ribbon they're wearing to easily identify them in the crowd. Then walk up, say hello and you'll see how easy it is to start a conversation. We guarantee this will be a friendly evening of citizen diplomacy that will create lasting-and positive-impressions of the U.S., Philadelphia and you.

Opera Singers Looking Forward to Homestay Experience
Hosts needed for 1-4 Weeks
Four singers who won an international competition in Italy to perform in the world premier of Decameron in Philadelphia are now looking forward to exploring Philadelphia and meeting Americans during the four weeks they're here for rehearsals and performances with the International Opera Theater.

There are still openings for the important role of  "citizen diplomat" host!  Will you host?  The singers come from Italy, Japan, & Korea, and IVC is seeking friendly Philadelphians (and opera lovers!) who would enjoy sharing a rich American cultural experience by hosting one or two of the five people (we have two hosts already): four singers and the maestro (two women and three men).  All are fluent Italian speakers; the maestro is from Italy and speaks English, and the others have a little English.

Hosting would be for one or four weeks - they arrive in Philadelphia on October 17th and leave on November 15th and 16th. The performances are November 12, 13, 14 and the hosts, of course, are invited as their guests!

If you are interested in hosting, email Jennifer McGinn or call her at 215-683-0993.

The International Opera Theater world premiere of Decameron is being sponsored by The Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia, Citta' di Saluzzo, Italy, Scuola Alto Perfezionamento, The American Composers Forum-Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, Rosenbach Museum and Library, Center for Italian Studies at The University of Pennsylvania, America Italy Society, daVinci Art Alliance, Smile Gallery, University of the Arts, Drexel University, Terranova Wine Importers, and IVC.

Creating Decameron has been made possible, in part, by a grant from the William Penn Foundation to The American Composers Forum-Philadelphia.  Please help by hosting and taking on the important role of "citizen diplomat."

Home Stay Hosts needed for fifteen Japanese business men & women!
Every Fall we are asked to match our wonderful host with business men and women from Japan for a memorable one-night overnight stay.  This year's date is Friday, November 19th. We will send a separate email about this opportunity but we wanted to give hosts a heads-up now! If you are interested in creating a great American experience by hosting, email Jennifer McGinn, or call her at 215-683-0993.

Arabic Interpreters Needed

IVC is seeking professional Arabic interpreters & translators for anticipated upcoming U.S. government-sponsored Egyptian education programs from late 2010 through Spring 2011.

Please send an email to Ann Stauffer, IVC's IVP, with your interest and qualifications.  Please attach a resume or CV.
