Make peace.

FIRST THURSDAY - September 3
Visitors at August FT
Join IVC for an evening of "citizen diplomacy" where you can build your international network, promote Philadelphia and improve the image of the U.S. abroad - in just two hours!

For attendees observing Ramadan, The Courtyard Marriott will serve additional food at sundown, 7:29 p.m. Thank you Courtyard Marriott!

September's First THURSDAY international reception features guests of honor from at least 25 countries, including a Pakistani high school student on the YES Program, plus others from...

Azerbaijan, Chile, China, Egypt, France, Greece, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Palestinian Territories, Russia, Spain, Turkey, UK, Uzbekistan & Venezuela

So do join us this Thursday, September 3rd at 5:30 p.m. and welcome our special international guests on several programs, including
Sister Cities, Pennsylvania's Center in China, University of Pennsylvania's Law School... and more!  Email Alan Hatfield or call 215-683-0992 to let him know you'll attend.

But first, you have a "job" at First Thursday!
When you pick up your name badge, be sure to ask for the list with our guests' names, their interests & why they're here. It also tells you what color ribbon they're wearing so you can easily identify them in the crowd. Then walk up, say hello and you'll see how easy it is to start a conversation. We guarantee this friendly citizen diplomacy will create lasting positive impressions of the U.S., Philadelphia - and you.

IVC's Young Professionals Group Revving up for Fall
COMPASS, IVC's young professionals' group, is gearing up for activities this fall.  In the 1980's COMPASS became the region's first young professionals group for "international affairs" with the advantage of building their international network in an informal and fun way.  Today's Compass members are still showing off Philadelphia's nightlife and culture to our State Department, Sister City and university guests. You'll find them chatting with entrepreneurs from France at First Thursdays or showcasing American sports at a 76ers game with a group of Drexel or Temple MBA students.  They take Fulbright Scholars to dinner and host rising State Department leaders from all over the world at informal dinners in their apartments, or with"group hospitality" at the City's great BYOBs and happy hours. To become part of IVC's COMPASS group, just join IVC today and let us know you're between 21 and 40 and want to be a part of COMPASS.  It's that simple - and it's a great way to make new friends here and abroad.
Not an IVC Member yet?
It's easy to join!  You'll enjoy ten receptions each year at no cost - plus have the benefit of hosting an established or emerging leader in your home through the U.S. Department of State.  Making friends really does lead to peace.

Call Alan Hatfield at 215-683-0992 or go
online to join.

IVC is a citizen diplomacy organization.  Citizen Diplomacy is the right  - if not the obligation - of the individual citizen to help shape U.S. international relations - "one handshake at a time."
