Read below to find out who visited Philadelphia in 2004!

TAIWAN- From December 9 to 12, 2004, four Taiwan Supreme Court Justices were in Philadelphia to take part in The United States Department of state, International Visitor Leadership Program entitled "The U.S. Federal Court System." The project's objective was to provide the group with an insight into the structure, functions and complexity of the federal court system in the United States.

SOUTH KOREA- The U.S. Department of State sponsored an International Visitor Leadership project for two aviation security experts who visited Philadelphia from December 9 to 11, 2004. Their program mainly focused on developing contacts at the Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security, and Relevant U.S. airports; observing how air security and air carrier security is implemented in the United States; Understand recent development of U.S. aviation security policy; exchange technical expertise with U.S. counterparts; learn about U.S. civil aviation security technologies and experience American culture and society.

UKRAINE -From November 9 to Dec 11, 2004, 8 entrepreneurs from Vinnytsia, Ukraine were in Philadelphia. This group was particularly involved in The U.S. State Department Leadership Program. They were in Philadelphia for an intensive four weeks technical training, and at the same time all the participants lived with Philadelphia area families for a total immersion into American Culture. 

VIETNAM - From December 3 to 8, 2004, The U.S. Department of State sponsored an International Visitor Leadership project for Ngoc Thi Minh Nguyen of Vietnam who was in Philadelphia for five days. Her program objectives were based on Religion in the United States.

OMAN - From November 24 to 27, 2004, an administrative manager with International Clothing Industries, was in Philadelphia to receive a broad exposure to The American Society. While in Philadelphia he was engaged in sightseeing and Thanksgiving.

MIDDLE EAST & NORTH AFRICA (Bahrain, Egypt, Gaza, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, West Bank, and Yemen) -From November 20 to 27, 2004, a group of 12 women were in Philadelphia and took part in a project that focused on "Federalism, Women in Public Office."

RUSSIA - Another group of nine guests from Russia  were in Philadelphia from November 20 to 24, 2004.This group's particular focus was on "Civic Education."

TURKMENISTAN - Three guests from Turkmenistan were in Philadelphia from November 17 to 19, 2004. Their program objective was "Religious Tolerance."

EUROPE (Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Italy and The Slovak Republic) - A group of seven guests from the above-mentioned European Nations were in Philadelphia from November 13 to 16, 2004. The focus of this group's program objective was on "Art Museum Management."

RUSSIA - Eight guests from Russia were in Philadelphia From November 7 to 10, 2004. They were involved in an International Visitor single country project for Russia. The program's focul point was on "American Studies."

AFRICA (Angola, Guinea-Bissau, and Sao Tome) - From November 3 to 6, 2004, eight delegates from Africa were in Philadelphia to participate in a regional project for Africa focusing on "Democratic Governance and Citizen Participation." They were guests of the State Department.

IRAQ - From November 1 to November 4, 2004, nine delegates from Iraq were in Philadelphia. Their program focused on "The Art of Engaging and Informing The Electorate."

ECUADOR - 3 visitors from Ecuador were in Philadelphia from October 27 to October 31, 2004. They were interested in "U.S. Elections and Democracy in America" these guests of the State Department were interested to learn more about the U.S. elections process, and to gain an overview of federalism in the United States.

UZBEKISTAN - From September 22 to October 6, 2004, A group participants from the city of Tashkent (a.k.a Toshkent) in Uzbekistan were in Philadelphia. They came to take part in a program "Cultural and Religious Pluralism in Uzbekistan and the United States", which is a United States Government nation-building Project.

SERBIA-MONTENEGRO - From August 3 to August 5, 2004, three delegates from Serbia-Montenegro were in Philadelphia to learn about "Municipal Administration Issues."  These guests of the State Department were particularly interested in finance management and economic development.  The delegation consists of the Mayor of Podgorica, the Mayor's advisor and a professor.

HAITI - Nine guests from Haiti were in Philadelphia from August 7 to August 11, 2004.  They were interested in "Campaigns and Elections in the United States" including special issues of battleground states and grassroots mobilization.  They are guests of the State Department.

MALAYSIA -The Executive Director of the Social Strategic Foundation (YYS), Kuala Lumpur was in Philadelphia from July 29 to August 4, 2004.  The delegate was selected as a member of the Special Commission to Enhance the Operation and Management of the Royal Malaysian Police.  The commission was appointed by the King of Malaysia to investigate ways to explore rule of law, police responsiveness and human rights.  While in Philadelphia, he learned about local community crime, violence, race relations and poverty.  He was a guest of the State Department.

TANZANIA - Five delegates of the State Department were visiting Philadelphia from July 25 to July 28, 2004.  Their interests in the United States included: local community crime; technologies that support community policing; neighborhood town meetings and Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE.) 

LIBYA- On July 18, 2004, seven guests visited Philadelphia from Libya.  Their specific interest in Philadelphia was to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.  They were guests of the State Department.

INDONESIA - Two guests of the State Department were in Philadelphia from July 17 to July 21, 2004.  Their project was concerning "Islam, Religious Freedom and Tolerance in America."  The particular goals of their program were to examine the Constitutional provisions for the separation of church and state, examine broad issues of diversity in the U.S., examine the role of faith-based groups in civic and community life, explore the relationships between religious and secular institutions and religious values and modernization and provide and overview of religious freedom in the United States.

KYRGYZSTAN - From July 14 to July 17, 2004, five delegates from Kyrgyzstan were in Philadelphia.  The focus of their program was "Religious Tolerance with a Focus on Islam."

BRAZIL - The General Coordinator of "Grupo Cultural Baguncaco" NGO in Brazil was in Philadelphia from July 14 to July 17, 2004.  This guest of the State Department was here to learn about at-risk youth.

JAPAN - The Executive Director, Principal Researcher of the Higashi Mikawa Regional Research Center (HRRC) was in Philadelphia from July 2 to July 5, 2004.  The goals of his program were: to enhance his understanding of the benefits of decentralization and regional economic development to sustainable economic growth; to expand his views about the values of transparency and openness of regulatory policies; to better understand the values of fair trade and develop contacts in American localities; to gain knowledge that will be influential for Japanese organizations that set environmental policies in regional governments and specifically in recycling in the automobile industry; and to encourage his support of further structural reforms of the Japanese economy for greater market access and a more favorable investment environment.

MOROCCO - Two guests of the State Department were in Philadelphia from July 1 to July 6, 2004.  During their visit, they examined human rights, with a particular emphasis on women's rights, along with NGO management, public health, fundraising and youth volunteerism in the United States.
